Past [Distant]May was born in Johto, and moved to Littleroot Town, Hoenn, when she was about 4. As such, May doesn't really remember too much about Johto, and only knows things about it from what her parents had told her. As such, May knows a lot of the Johto legends, and didn't know as much about Hoenn as other people living in the region.
At the age of 10, May, like most other trainers at that age, received her first Pokemon. May struggled to choose which Pokemon she wanted, but in the end, she picked Mudkip, since it seemed to be a water type, and May loved water. May nicknamed this said Mudkip 'Kipple', and headed off on her journey.
Along the way, she met a boy named Brendan. At first, she found him really annoying, and dubbed him 'Annoying Kid'. From then on, that's how she addressed him every time she saw him. She met Wally when she went on her way to see her father, and helped Wally to catch... a shiny Ralts. May naturally thought that's what normal Ralts looked like and she was proud to find her own normal Ralts. Of course, she learned later she was wrong, but she didn't care, she still loved her 'shiny' Ralts, nicknamed 'Rallu'.
Past [Recent]May earned 4 out of 8 badges when she learned about contests. Instead of earning badges, May decided on that day to try and collect all the ribbons. She aimed to be the best co-ordinator, though she is still a pretty strong trainer, especially when you consider she only has 4 badges.
She continued to try and collect ribbons. May had nearly earned all of them, but mainly just competed in them to try and beat some other co-ordinators. May also advertised contests, and helped new co-ordinators with their skills.
PresentMay has recently earned her final ribbon. She still aims to advertise contests, and tries to convince others to compete in one, at least once, just to see how they like it. May still competes in contests, even though really, it's just for fun now.
May also teaches people on how to be a co-ordinator. Even though she herself was a bit of a sore loser, she tried to convince others that losing wasn't the end of the world, and that you could always try another day. She especially tried to tell that to new co-ordinators, who gave it up because 'they couldn't win'.
